Mr. Gary Miller, Director
Gary Miller, a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, is a thirty year veteran of music education. Gary spent the first sixteen years in the traditional public school system and the last fifteen at Indian River Charter High School where he is the Director of Choral activities in the Schumann School for the Visual and Performing Arts, a school within the Indian River Charter High School. During Gary's career, his choirs have consistently received superior ratings at district, state, and national adjudication events earning recognition for performing challenging repertoire with a high degree of excellence. By invitation, his choirs have performed in prestigious venues throughout Germany, Austria, and Italy, such as The Vatican's St. Peter's Basilica, St. Mark's Basilica in Venice, the Vienna Symphony Hall, and Hadyn's Hall at the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt. Closer to home, his choirs have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall on four occasions, Washington D.C., and several honor choir events hosted by the universities and colleges in Florida. Gary has collaborated with several nationally known show choir personalities in authoring a show choir instructional manual, published by Music Educators National Conference. He has been the consultant for the secondary music teachers publication entitled Teaching Music and has served at the state and regional levels as Chairman of the Jazz and Show Choir standards Committee for the American Choral Directors Association. Gary has served as President of the Florida Vocal Association and is in much demand throughout Florida as an adjudicator and clinician. Gary considers his most memorable achievements to be: winning the 1990 International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, being named Teacher of the Year while at Vero Beach High School in 1996, and being awarded the Laurel Award by the Cultural Council of Indian River County for his role in the arts at the local level. His wife, Daiana, and he have four children: Annalise, Brianna, Gabriella, and Dorian.
